Everlasting is a long-term promise. So we put our promise to the test. FOAMGLAS® insulation fully retains its strength, thermal performance and all further exceptional properties. The following test cases prove it.

The conclusions of the FIW were unequivocal

  • No ageing effects were evident, either in terms of a loss of thermal performance or lower compressive strength. 

  • After nearly half a century in situ, FOAMGLAS® roof insulation demonstrated the same performance properties as the day it was originally installed. 

  • Long-Term benefits of using FOAMGLAS® insulation within a flat roof.

  • FOAMGLAS® insulation is an excellent long-term investment. After several decades it maintains its properties and delivers the same thermal performance as it did when the building was first completed. The roof energy efficiency is constant, therefore building energy costs are minimized. 

  • Roof maintenance is kept to a minimum, as there is no need to replace the FOAMGLAS® insulation - after 20 or 30 years a new roof waterproofing may be needed, it can be removed, and a new waterproofing system is installed over the original insulation.

Main conclusions

Results confirm same mechanical properties of the samples – even after approximately 30 years. Samples remain consistent high thermal insulation performance.

Bavarian Brewery

in Lieshout, Netherlands

Installed 1986 – 32 years old at the time of the test

Main conclusions 

After 3 decades samples show even thermal performance. Compressive strength remains identical at over 1,000 kPa.

Result: FOAMGLAS® T2 and its properties do not age over time 

Sample is taken from the flat roof of a Bavarian Brewery by a 3rd party commissioner (SECO / BCCA).

Installed 1973 – 45 years old at the time of the test

Main conclusions 

Samples still show the same thermal performance as more than 40 year before. Compressive strength of 1480 kPa remains unchanged until today.
