FOAMGLAS® insulation

Consistent performance over time

What if performance was everlasting

Everlasting is a long-term promise. So we put our promise to the test. FOAMGLAS® insulation fully retains its strength, thermal performance and all further exceptional properties. The following test cases prove it.

The conclusions of the FIW were unequivocal

  • No ageing effects were evident, either in terms of a loss of thermal performance or lower compressive strength.

  • After nearly half a century in situ, FOAMGLAS® roof insulation demonstrated the same performance properties as the day it was originally installed.

  • Long-Term benefits of using FOAMGLAS® insulation within a flat roof.

  • FOAMGLAS® insulation is an excellent long-term investment. After several decades it maintains its properties and delivers the same thermal performance as it did when the building was first completed. The roof energy efficiency is constant, therefore building energy costs are minimized.

  • Roof maintenance is kept to a minimum, as there is no need to replace the FOAMGLAS® insulation - after 20 or 30 years a new roof waterproofing may be needed, it can be removed, and a new waterproofing system is installed over the original insulation.

Care home

in Burcot, UK

Installed 1989 – 29 years old at the time of the test

Flat roof on wooden substructure
FOAMGLAS® T2, 90 mm

Reference values of 1989
Lambda: 0,045 ± 5% W/mK
Compressive strength: ≥ 500 kPa

FIW test result of today
Lambda initial: 0,048 W/mK
Lambda dried: 0,048 W/mK
Compressive strength: 1018 kPa

Main conclusions

Results confirm same mechanical properties of the samples – even after approximately 30 years. Samples remain consistent high thermal insulation performance.

Result: FOAMGLAS® T2 maintains its properties consistently throughout time

Sample is taken from the flat roof of British care home building under 3rd party supervision.

Bavarian Brewery

in Lieshout, Netherlands

Installed 1986 – 32 years old at the time of the test

Flat roof on wooden substructure
FOAMGLAS® T2, 90 mm

Reference values of 1986
Lambda: 0,045 ± 5% W/mK
Compressive strength: ≥ 500 kPa

FIW test results of today
Lambda initial: 0,043 W/mK
Lambda dried: 0,043 W/mK
Compressive strength: 1102 kPa

Main conclusions

After 3 decades samples show even thermal performance. Compressive strength remains identical at over 1,000 kPa.

Result: FOAMGLAS® T2 and its properties do not age over time

Sample is taken from the flat roof of a Bavarian Brewery by a 3rd party commissioner (SECO / BCCA).

Hospital

in Kristianstad, Sweden

Installed 1973 – 45 years old at the time of the test

Compact roof on concrete deck
FOAMGLAS® S3, 50 mm

Reference values of 1973
Lambda: 0,049 ± 5% W/mK
Compressive strength: ≥ 500 kPa

FIW test results of today
Lambda initial: 0,047 W/mK
Lambda dried: 0,047 W/mK
Compressive strength: 1480 kPa

Main conclusions

Samples still show the same thermal performance as more than 40 year before. Compressive strength of 1480 kPa remains unchanged until today.

Result: FOAMGLAS® S3 and its properties do not age over time

Sample is taken from the terrace roof of a Swedish hospital by the applicant.
