Compact Roof

A compact roof is a combined insulated climate screen and waterproof roofing system that features the outstanding qualities of FOAMGLAS® insulation, providing excellent leak protection and high compressive strength.

WHAT IS A COMPACT ROOF?

The foundation of an active roof is the FOAMGLAS® Compact Roof. Creating environments with active roofs requires material and system choices that ensure sustainable construction. With FOAMGLAS® thermal insulation and the FOAMGLAS® Compact Roof, insulation solutions are created with the highest safety standards. This results in a waterproof and pressure-resistant insulation system that secures water and vapor tightness while reducing the risk of fire spread (FOAMGLAS insulation is classified as non-combustible – Class A1) and boasts a proven durability of at least 50 years.

A compact roof is a flexible and waterproof roofing system that features the outstanding qualities of FOAMGLAS® insulation, providing excellent leak protection and high compressive strength.

This roof consists of three essential layers that are fully adhered together, with seams sealed using hot bitumen or cold adhesives:

  • a supporting structure
  • FOAMGLAS® cellular glass insulation
  • a waterproofing membrane

A FOAMGLAS® Compact Roof solution increases the possibilities for using the surface for various purposes over time, as the superstructure above the compact roof can be replaced. This way, the tightness and insulation layer are not compromised, and costs for changing the surface usage area are minimized. An example could be that the surface features a wooden deck when installed, which can later be replaced with a lawn. The possibilities for different superstructures are virtually limitless with the FOAMGLAS® Compact Roof.

Although the installation may vary based on the roof's intended use, the fundamental structure remains consistent.

FOAMGLAS COMPACT ROOF AS A ROOFING SOLUTION

Transforming the roof of an existing building is a smart way to utilize current surfaces, adding extra usable space while enhancing the building's appeal and value. This includes terraces, green roofs, and community spaces. Both new constructions and older buildings can take advantage of these improvements.

Almost any active roof can be constructed using the core compact roof design, and the roof's purpose can be adapted in the future. FOAMGLAS® Compact Roof can support heavy loads without deformation, which is highly advantageous for architects, engineers, specifiers, and property owners.

It’s leak-proof due to its filled and staggered joints (both vertical and horizontal) within or beneath the system.

The Compact Roof can slope down to 1:90 and does not require mechanical fixing.

NO OTHER INSULATION SOLUTION OR MANUFACTURER OFFERS ALL THESE BENEFITS IN ONE SINGLE SOLUTION.

SECURE & LEAKAGE PROOF

Filled and shifted joints (horizontally and vertically) - NO risk of leakage or water absorption in or under the insulation material = COMPACT ROOF. With a compact roof, the slope can be made down to 1:90. No mechanical fastening is required since the solution is fully adhered.
