Grimshaw Architects has been chosen by the Vehbi Koç Foundation to design Koç Contemporary, a new contemporary art museum in Istanbul. The Vehbi Koç Foundation is one of the biggest non-governmental charitable organizations in Turkey. It was established on January 17, 1969 by the Turkish entrepreneur and philanthropist Vehbi Koç (1901-1996). The foundation is active in the fields of education, healthcare and culture.

The new project has been conceived to fulfil the Foundation’s vision of showcasing the growing Koç collection to the broadest possible audience and to place these works in a national, regional and international context of contemporary artists. The creation of Koç Contemporary will result in a landmark building entirely derived from its context with the mosaic tiled forms of traditional Ottoman architecture providing the inspiration for the design’s materials concept.

The FOAMGLAS® Façade System brings a new dimension in performance and economy. By combining the unique properties of cellular glass insulation with every type of imaginative façade material, architects, specifiers and building owners alike are assured of the optimum system that goes far beyond simple aesthetics. FOAMGLAS® W+F, not only enables the outer skin of the building to provide protection against cold, heat and rain, it also provides fire protection, sound proofing and thermal insulation at an affordable price.
