Molnets Förskola
2850 m² schoolyard on top of the roof

The need to use areas in central locations in larger cities is increasing. Kunskapsporten AB, the property owner, has implemented this in the project Molnet's preschool in Malmö. Here, they have utilized an existing mobility house in central Malmö to add an additional level for a preschool and a schoolyard of 2850 m². The designer in the project was Structor AB in Malmö, and the roofing contractor was Dan Nilsson Tak AB in Åhus.
In the course of the construction of Molnet's preschool in Malmö, a pivotal decision was made to opt for FOAMGLAS® as the preferred insulation material. This choice was grounded in a myriad of protective properties that this insulation material brings to the table, notably its resistance to pressure, its impermeability to water and moisture, and its fire-resistant characteristics.
Firstly, the pressure resistance of FOAMGLAS® ensures the longevity of the building's structural integrity. Its cellular glass structure can withstand substantial loads without deformation, providing a stable and durable insulation layer that can effectively preserve the building’s foundation and walls. This is particularly vital for a facility like a preschool where the safety and stability of the infrastructure are paramount.
Secondly, FOAMGLAS® offers water and moisture resistance, which is instrumental in safeguarding the premises from potential water damage and the consequent problems. Its closed-cell structure is impervious to water, averting the infiltration of moisture and ensuring a dry and comfortable interior environment.
Lastly, the fire-resistant properties of FOAMGLAS® cannot be overlooked, especially in a preschool setting where safety is a top priority. The non-combustible nature of this material means that it does not contribute to the spread of flames, serving as a robust barrier that helps in containing fire and preventing it from escalating. This adds an extra layer of safety, potentially saving lives and preserving property in the unfortunate event of a fire.
In conclusion, the selection of FOAMGLAS® as the insulation material for Molnet's preschool was a strategic move grounded in safeguarding the infrastructure and ensuring the safety and well-being of its occupants. Its pressure-resistant, water and moisture-impermeable, and fire-resistant properties make it an ideal choice for a facility that stands as a beacon of safety and sustainability in the heart of Malmö.
