Air ducts

Thermal insulation solutions for air ducts that provide resistance to the formation of condensation assuring the integrity of the ducts over time. Our air duct insulation systems are non-combustible and will not produce any smoke or fumes in case of a fire.
Insulating air ducts helps the control the temperature within the ducts and to prevent the ducts from leaking air which will result in greater energy consumption and increased energy costs. Heat loss through the duct walls is also an expected and inevitable drain on the system. Effective thermal insulation of the ductwork reduces this heat loss and helps to minimize energy usage.
Cool air passing through warm areas of a building can cause condensation and dripping, which can lead to mold growth, corrosion and multiple safety issues. Condensation will form on duct surfaces with a temperature either equal to or lower than the dew point. This moisture can become a hotbed for microbial contamination and corrosion.
Without proper air duct insulation, you could be losing up to 30% of the energy used to heat or cool your building or facility. So a good level of air duct insulation will prevent energy wastage, but also leaks, temperature drops, and condensation buildup.
For this kind of applications it is recommended to use a closed cell insulation as this will prevent any moisture ingress to could lead to energy losses, build-up of condensation and the consequences that go along.
FOAMGLAS® Insulation has been one of the preferred insulation materials for air ducts for many years. Since it consists of closed glass cells, it is water and vapour tight which reduces the risk of corrosion under insulation or the buildup of mold and bacteria, it also eliminates the need for an extra vapor barrier.
FOAMGLAS® Insulation provides great thermal properties and thus prevents that the outside air duct surface from cooling down and creating condensation. It will guarantee an efficient way of cooling your building and saving in energy costs. Furthermore, it’s completely inorganic and does not contain chemicals such as HCFC's, CFC's or VOC's and on top off that is Euroclass A1 fire safe, so does not burn or give off smoke in case of a fire. That is why FOAMGLAS® Insulation is often a preferred material for air ducts in densely populated buildings.
Typical configuration
for air ducts
- A single layer system of FOAMGLAS® insulation
- Joints shall be sealed with a PC® sealant appropriate for the application
- Coating or cladding shall be applied for aesthetics or where mechanical protection is required
