Timber Peak

Timber-hybrid high-rise in Mainz’s Zollhafen

Timber Peak
Mainz
Germany

Timber Peak, an architectural and ecological flagship project, is being built in the historic Zollhafen district of Mainz: according to UBM Development Deutschland GmbH, the city’s first timber-hybrid high-rise combines modern construction methods, high-quality materials and an integrated energy concept that meets high standards of efficiency. The high-performance insulation material FOAMGLAS® T3+ plays a central role in this. Developed for demanding construction projects, it offers high compressive strength and non-combustibility supporting the project’s targeted DGNB Gold certification and its requirements for energy efficiency and climate protection.

As a timber-hybrid construction, the “Timber Peak” project in Mainz’s Zollhafen combines the sustainability of timber with the benefits of modern technologies. With a gross floor area of around 9,500 m², the building was specifically designed for office and commercial use and offers modern and flexible working environments. As one of Europe’s leading developers of timber-hybrid buildings, UBM Development is responsible for the project development of Timber Peak.

The client, ZH Hafenspitze GmbH & Co. KG, is pursuing a clear vision of sustainable construction and minimised energy consumption with this project. The choice of FOAMGLAS® T3+ as the insulation material plays a central role in this. Thanks to its thermal insulation properties, the material contributes to optimising energy efficiency. Furthermore, its high compressive strength and non-combustibility make it a suitable insulation solution for the timber-hybrid construction, where protection against moisture and fire risk are of crucial importance. UBM had already opted for FOAMGLAS® in an earlier project – the Timber Pioneer building in Frankfurt am Main. Construction of the Timber Peak in Mainz began in the last quarter of 2023, with completion scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2025.
