Saint Bavo’s Cathedral

Saint bavos cathedral
Ghent
Belgium

The famous Saint Bavo Cathedral towers majestically above the East Flemish capital. This beautiful landmark too was not entirely resistant to the ravages of time. That is why a thorough restoration campaign was started to bring Saint Bavo into the 21st century.

FOAMGLAS® systems are installed in the basement of the church in order to provide the best possible floor insulation. FOAMGLAS® Floor Board was cold adhered to the substructure of the crypt at St. Bavo's Cathedral in Ghent.

Why this choice?
Due to the high compressive strength (up to 160 tons/m²) of this solution the insulation will not deform;

  • It is a pure mineral material and therefore there is no risk of volatiles;

  • FOAMGLAS® is completely impervious to moisture.

  • FOAMGLAS® is also completely impervious to moisture.

With this project we have once again proven that cellular glass is the ideal material for buildings with the highest insulation demands.
