Kort beskrivelse Ars Electronica Centre tilbyder et strukturelt blik på morgendagens verden, fremtidens laboratorium. The development includes:

  • A multi-story main and utility building that forms a single unit with the existing building.
  • An exhibition space in the basement, underneath a plaza (Main deck).
  • Futurelab, a media art lab with Upper deck.

For the correct dimensioning of the structure and choice of building materials, knowledge of the thermal requirements and potential risks was essential. A realistic load also had to be kept in mind at all times.

Damage to parking roofs usually has a negative impact on thermal protection as a result of soaked insulation materials, leading to structural problems.

The absolute centrepiece is the plaza. It can be driven on and used in a variety of ways for cultural events. It also serves as the roof of the basement. It was insulated and designed as a drivable FOAMGLAS® compact roof. In terms of technology and material, the roof is future-proof.

As an urban landmark, the structure by TREUSCH architecture received the International Architecture Award in 2010 and the "best architects 12" award in 2012.
