SIMPLIFYING ACCESS AND MAINTENANCE WITH

Terraconfort System

Integrated slope insulation solution with liquid sealing system - A reliable partnership for accessible terraces and galleries

Findings and problems

Pedestrian-accessible roof terraces often encounter maintenance challenges due to heavy protective features like slabs on pedestals or wooden planks. Common issues include:

- Mechanical stress on slabs, damaging coverings and waterproofing.

- Covering punctures caused by heavy equipment installation (like furniture or planters).

- Inadequate maintenance leading to dirt buildup under slabs.

- Water stagnation due to insufficient slope, which can attract mosquitoes.

These factors often result in water infiltration, increasing repair costs over time.

High-performance solution

Owens Corning FOAMGLAS and Triflex provide a robust solution for architects and property owners in both new constructions and renovations. With decades of expertise, both industry leaders have combined their strengths to address common problems effectively. The system includes:

  • Thermal Insulation: FOAMGLAS® T3+ cellular glass with an integrated slope of 1.5%*
  • Liquid Waterproofing System (L.W.S.): Triflex® Type BTS-P, recognized for its superior performance

Why choose the system ?

1. Wind and fire test results

The system underwent extensive wind and fire testing at the Centre scientifique et technique du bâtiment (CSTB) and received a European Classification Report (RA24-0215), valid for five years. It is also B ROOF (t3) certified.

2. Sustainability

FOAMGLAS® and Triflex products promote energy efficiency. Their non-combustibility and resistance to water, chemicals, and pests contribute to a safe environment while decreasing maintenance needs and waste throughout its lifetime. This system is a solid, high-performance choice for pedestrian-accessible roofs that balances environmental and functional needs.

3. Combatting the Tiger Mosquito

The invasive Aedes albopictus, or tiger mosquito, has been a growing concern in France since 2004. These mosquitoes thrive in urban areas and lay eggs in stagnant water, making flat roofs without proper drainage major breeding grounds.

FOAMGLAS® and Triflex offer a solution to mitigate this issue. If roofs have sufficient slope, flat FOAMGLAS® insulation boards can be used. For roofs lacking slope, FOAMGLAS® TAPERED provides a solution without trapping moisture. This ensures water does not accumulate, eliminating breeding spaces for mosquitoes.

WHAT OUR CLIENTS SAY

What do our customers say about the FOAMGLAS® TERRACONFORT system?

Discover the testimonial of Marc DUPONT, Project Manager at BET HAKRIVIS EXPERTISES, based in Marcq-en-Barœul (59):

As a thermal renovation project manager for social housing associations, I often encountered challenges related to sustainability and energy efficiency—particularly issues with waterproofing and thermal degradation on accessible terraces with tiles on supports. These problems led to high maintenance costs and negatively impacted residents' comfort.

The TERRACONFORT system proved to be an innovative and reliable solution. Its excellent thermal performance is guaranteed and remains stable over time. It eliminates thermal bridges and resolves common issues associated with tile-on-support systems, such as maintenance difficulties, unpleasant odours, and mosquito infestations.

While the initial investment may be higher, it is quickly offset by significant savings in maintenance and repair costs.

I am convinced that the TERRACONFORT system was the right choice. It offers a sustainable, long-term solution with consistent thermal performance. I highly recommend it to other social landlords and building owners.
