New entrance podium with porcelain tiles

The Victoria and Albert Museum is one of the world’s most renowned museums of art and design. It provides unparalleled knowledge and understanding of the designed world to the public.
The newly refurbished entrance is the first porcelain tiled public courtyard in the UK, consisting of upper and lower podium floors with a total area of 1200 m² of T4+ FOAMGLAS® TAPERED installed. FOAMGLAS® T4+ has a compressive strength of 600kN/m², with no compression or deflection.
The FOAMGLAS® TAPERED scheme was designed and installed on a concrete deck with two high performance bitumen waterproofing membranes applied above the FOAMGLAS® panels.
The bedding and porcelain tiles provide the final finish and they will support the large volume of visitors expected daily.
It was the strength of our cellular glass insulation, which exhibits no compression or deflection, combined with its time-tested thermal performance, that convinced the architects and structural engineers. The FOAMGLAS® system will provide a long-term solution for this entrance and courtyard.
