Thermal oil piping and equipment

Thermal insulation solutions for hot oil piping and equipment operating at above ambient temperatures.
Taking advantage of hot oil heating systems allows industrial processes to have precision heating. They make it possible to reach and maintain high temperatures at low pressure with a high degree of accuracy.
Thermal-fluid pipework is a high-temperature application with the inherent danger of wicking fires. Other insulation materials have been shown to wick oils and provide conditions for spontaneous lagging fires.
Closed-cell insulation is uniquely able to help eliminate this risk and due to the closed-cell nature of FOAMGLAS® insulation, oil cannot enter the insulation. This preserves thermal conductivity and helps limit wicking dangers.
The same closed-cell properties which make FOAMGLAS® insulation ideal for thermal fluid systems are also advantageous to help prevent water ingress and limit corrosion under insulation (CUI). Thermal fluid systems are not immune from CUI and cyclic temperatures have been demonstrated to increase the rate of corrosion when water enters permeable insulation.
Heat transfer fluids are generally employed in the temperature range from 175°C to 400°C (347°F to 752°F). At these temperatures, FOAMGLAS® insulation is subject to thermal cracking.
Our range of insulation solutions includes a number of systems to control thermal shock. With these systems, thermal cracking is controlled, and mechanical and thermal performances are unimpaired.
Typical Systems
for hot oil process piping and equipment:
- The StrataFab® System - A unique, proprietary method of forming and fabricating FOAMGLAS® insulation for use in many hot and high temperature service applications.
- The PC® 700K System - A single or double layer system of prefabricated insulation shells (PSH), segments (PSG) and shapes reinforced with an appropriate cementitious compound and supporting scrim.
