PFP for process piping and equipment

Fire fighters extinguishing a fire

Thermal insulation solutions for passive fire protection in processing and commercial environments. Our insulation systems serve to protect piping and equipment from fire damage, retard fire spread and help safeguard personnel.

Industrial fire safety is more important now than ever before.  Production demands require oil and gas facilities to run continuously without fear of costly safety issues.
Handling and storage of flammable liquids involves a significant risk of fire, and the processing industry has developed appropriate fire protection methods and procedures. However, incidents with spills or leakages do happen and can present a risk of ignition. If ignition does occur, it can quickly lead to a major fire with serious consequences.

Facilities that process highly flammable hydrocarbons always face the risk of fire and blast events., Installing passive fire protection systems is a great solution to maintain the safety around the facility, where people and critical equipment are present. Should an oil or gas spill occur and possibly ignite, it is important that the integrity of structures and pipes are protected as long as possible.

"Thermal insulation" is usually considered as a material limited to helping maintain operating system temperatures, while acknowledged as having a potentially active role in fire propagation. However, in the case of FOAMGLAS® insulation, the insulation can serve to protect piping and equipment from fire damage, retard fire spread and help safeguard personnel. FOAMGLAS® insulation, as an insulating material, is considered one of the best in a hydrocarbon processing facility based on its thermal and fire-resistant properties.

FOAMGLAS® insulation can assist in protecting the steel substrate from the heat of a fire by reducing the heat input and extending the time it takes for the temperature of the protected media to reach the critical temperature. It will not burn, promote flame spread, or produce toxic smoke, maintaining the integrity of escape routes to the temporary refuge.

Multiple FOAMGLAS® insulation passive fire protection systems are currently available to aid in limiting heat flux and protecting the structural integrity of installations during jet fires and hydrocarbon pool fires.
