In old Gascon, the word 'Cos' means "the hill of pebbles”. The quality of the gravel in this wine producing region, forces the vine roots deep into the ground beneath the arid soil . These woody roots  are one of the factors which give the Château Cos d'Estournel wine its distinctive flavour.

FOAMGLAS® was selected to insulate the vertical walls of the new wine cellars. The insulation slabs were bonded to the concrete structural wall. An inner wall was then built using concrete blocks and a special render coat was applied.

The FOAMGLAS® cellular glass insulation, and special coating, has been awarded the “Label Excell Vert”. This award is recognised by the food industry only applies to construction materials which meet strict guidelines for emissions of VOCs (volatile organic compounds).
