The parking roof structures, realized in and adjacent to Het Steen, were constructed according to the Compact Roof principle. They utilized FOAMGLAS® F insulation with a thickness of 160 mm, combined with hot bitumen-fired membranes, and were finished with cobblestones. The walkable and passable roads on and near Het Steen provide easy and safe access to the castle and its surroundings.

To ensure these roads can withstand the heavy load from both vehicles and foot traffic, FOAMGLAS® insulation F was chosen. This insulation not only ensures that the roofs, and consequently the roads, are waterproof and fireproof, but also that they can endure extremely high compressive loads of up to 160 tonnes/m² without deformation.

The road leading to the cruise terminal is crucial not only for the logistics of cruise ship operations and the convenience of the many tourists visiting the city daily, but also for the overall sustainability of the building. By employing FOAMGLAS® insulation, Het Steen is well-prepared to stand the test of time.
