FOAMGLAS® sustainability

The structure of cellular glass makes it impermeable and durable. In the EPD, the declared service life of FOAMGLAS® insulation is 100 years*. This longevity reduces the need for replacements, which in turn removes the need for new raw materials and the carbon emissions associated with producing replacement products. Once installed, FOAMGLAS® insulation continues to support energy efficiency throughout the building's lifetime.

Sustainable construction often means pushing boundaries. Structures such as green roofs and water management roofs bring exciting possibilities – but also additional risks. FOAMGLAS® cellular glass combines high compressive strength, water and vapor tightness, non-combustibility and lasting thermal performance. It helps mitigate those risks and supports the building sector in creating long-lasting architecture.

By supporting long service life and reducing the likelihood of replacement in some applications, FOAMGLAS® can contribute to lowering life cycle greenhouse gas emissions associated with material replacement and renovation. Sustainability has been part of our agenda for decades – over the past 15 years, we’ve cut Scope 1 and 2 emissions by ~60%, with more reductions ahead. A key part of this is our investment in the Klášterec plant in the Czech Republic, launching in 2026, which will further shrink our product carbon footprint.
